Day One - Medium Distance Race
Honolulu, Hi. U.S.A. The Waikiki Yacht Club ran the 40 mile medium distance race today of the 2009 FujiSanke Business i Waikiki Offshore Series. Starting off Waikiki in 7 -10 kts at 0900 the boats rounded Diamond Head buoy and beat to the Kokohead windward mark. Winds picked up to 17 kts for the first downwind leg. A return beat to Kokohead and then a spinnaker run that took the boats down the south shore of Oahu to a leeward mark east of the Honolulu airport.
The beat back to Waikiki was sailed in flat water and 8 – 12 kts of wind, sunny skies and 84 degrees. “I have never seen a better place to sail” stated a visiting Japanese crew after the race.
