SAMBA PA TI WINS
2007 WAIKIKI OFFSHORE SERIES

Fresh from her Division 2 first place in Transpac 2007 John Kilroy's TP52 Samba Pa Ti won the 2007 Waikiki Offshore Series. Sailing five races over three days off the south shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Samba Pa Ti finished with 8 points followed by John Spadaro's Sydney 41 Boomerang. Dave Nottage's J44 Kaimiloa placed third.

Three boats that sailed Transpac, Samba Pa Ti, Tabasco and On the Edge of Destiny turned right around to sail the Waikiki Offshore Series on Friday July 27. There were 5 Aloha Class Transpac boats still on the course when the first race started. Hawaii delivered her famous tropical trade wind surfing to Diamond Head in 15 – 28 knots of wind with 5 foot wind waves and a 3 foot south swell.

"Not only is Hawaii an incredible place to sail it is very family friendly" said John Kilroy while accepting the King Kamehameha Trophy Sunday afternoon at the Waikiki Yacht Club.

The other two Transpac boats, Tabasco and On the Edge of Destiny had their own battle on a closed course after dueling across the Pacific for 13 days. On the Edge of Destiny skippered by Sean Doyle, the youngest team to ever complete a Transpac grabbed a few other friends and came out to race. Owner and dad, Dan Doyle had Transpac duties that keep him off the boat until Sunday. "The boys were dead tired after the race, the arrival parties and the press attention but all they wanted to do was go out sailing" said Doyle. Tabasco skipper Gary Fanger was happy to be back after racing the last three Waikiki Offshore Series.
